WebJul 31, 2008 · Your 327 has a 4 inch bore, so yes, you could make it a 355 or a 383. (also a 302, for that matter). A 1965 327 has a small journal crank, that is a factory "forged" piece. Your engine builder is making a 355 or a 383 by changing the crankshaft to a longer stroke, and replacing the pistons to match. WebDec 23, 2005 · It says that from 1962-67, the 327s were built with 3.25" stroke, 2.30" mains, and 2.00" rod bearings. Crankshaft casting numbers of 2680, 4577, 3734627, 3782680, 3814671, and 3884577 are all supposed to be steel 327 cranks with small journals. Things changed in 1968, with medium (2.45") mains and 2.10" rod journals.

WebDec 17, 2013 · Tuning an engine to run properly at 14.7 to 1 with a wideband, and then switching to E-10, the mixture delivered is in the 14.3 range. It runs like its too lean even at 14.3, but actually runs worse when leaned out to 14.7. Not the ideal mixture for economy, but the correct exhaust gas matrix for the catalyst to work more efficiently. My first build was a small journal 327 with a small solid roller and the best set of 291 camel hump heads I could piece together. They did have 2.02 valves and screw in studs and a little crude port work.
