WebBefore fluorescence is emitted, an energy must be absorbed. In the case of photosynthesis and chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence, the absorbed energy is solar energy in a spectral region almost identical with visible light, i.e. in the interval 400 -700 nm for most of photosynthetizing systems. WebDuring the light reactions, the plant uses this energy to break water molecules into oxygen (O2), hydrogen ions, and electrons. The light reactions produce more oxygen than is needed for cellular respiration, so it is released as waste.
